Lydia Wermelskirchen is an emerging ceramic artist from Wuppertal. Born in Kazakhstan in the late 1980s, she spent her childhood and youth in the largest metropolitan area in Germany, the Ruhr area. Growing up in a bicultural environment, she quickly learned to navigate and question societal norms, fueling her desire for rebellion and shaping her personal worldview. Wermelskirchen swiftly learned to process and document her experiences and impressions through analog photography. Her openness to the new and unknown became a focal point, profoundly influencing her future artistic endeavors.

After successfully completing her training as a design assistant, Wermelskirchen studied Communication Design at the renowned university in Düsseldorf. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Since 2021, she has been working as a self-taught ceramic artist.

Inspired by the transient nature of life and in search of a new visual language, Wermelskirchen explores the boundaries between abstraction and reality in her work. Through her art, she captures and offers an impressive and uniquely captivating glimpse into the complexity of being human.
